Bodies of five skiers found in Swiss Alps

The group went missing near the 3,706m high Tete Blanche mountain. They had set off from Zermatt on a ski tour towards Arolla along the Swiss-Italian border. Five of the skiers were found at 21:20 local time (20:20 GMT) The group may have been overcome by the bad weather, rather than struck by an avalanche. The last signal from the group was recorded overnight.

The route from Zermatt to Arolla is part of the famous 120km (75 miles) “Haute Route. It is very popular, but suitable only for the most experienced skiers. It can take several days to reach the top of the mountain. It is possible to spend several days on the mountain, but only if you are very well-versed in the sport.

The best way to get to the top is to take a helicopter ride.
